Improvement of Winter Canola Lines Using Molecular Markers and Double Haploid Technique

Osterras operates in both seed and animal health sectors and invests in R&D, especially in the seed sector. In the seed sector, Osterras has prioritized breeding activities in corn, sunflower and rapeseed crops, which are the most imported crops in Turkey. It also continues to work on flax and safflower species. The company wants to have a share in the international market in these species. However, in order to gain market share in the highly competitive seed market, it has become imperative to include biotechnological methods in R&D programs. Osterras company wants to take place in the world canola seed market by developing lines by integrating molecular markers and double haploid techniques, especially in Canola plant, which has an important share in oil crops, and by developing efficient and high quality varieties by integrating with the classical breeding methods it has already started. From this point of view, in this project, it is planned to determine the restorer allele status of the advanced stage lines in the canola gene pool of Osterras company and to develop lines carrying the Rfo / RFP fertility restorer allele (to be determined by molecular marker) by selfing and double haploid (microspore) technique in order to develop new lines that can be restorers. It is aimed to develop maintainer pure lines with double haploid (microspore) technique.
